I remember reading the Journels of L&C, and again loved the podcast.

Appreciate Jeff's passion, but am not so sure that Civilized is the right word. Populated may be a better choice. The area was certainly populated, but not civilized.

Why would anyone assume that illegal aliens working at a Taco Bell would know who Hamilton was? (I only added this to pull Jeffrey's chain!) :)

Yeah, its the whole, how much can I actually fit in and then there is just an element of art to the casts, they are not all planned out.

I'll get the observation into a Q&AA

Actually its Jefferson we 'know' the Taco Bell guys didn't recognize, Hamilton we speculated they might not have recognized and the other unknown is, did the story happen at all. I kind of doubt the story. Still it was too delicious not to use for an intro...
